Mums…Are You Really Hard On Yourself?
Being a mum is one of the most rewarding jobs you’ll ever do. However, it is also one of the most challenging! So when I see mums being hard on themselves, comparing themselves unfavourably to other mums, or experiencing guilt over a moment where they didn’t manage their child’s behaviour ‘very well’ I just want to grab them and say “You’re amazing! You’re doing an incredible job!” So mums… my question/s for you is this: What would happen if instead of crucifying and beating yourself up, you showed yourself some kindness and compassion? What would happen if you were to talk to yourself in these ‘not so perfect moments’ like you would your best friend or your daughter?
I daresay a lot would happen – suddenly you might forgive yourself for these normal moments where you’re not perfect. You would also feel more confident in your parenting and know that you are doing the damn best you can. Why not give it a try…the next time you find yourself criticising your parenting see if you can instead bring an element of kindness and compassion to the way you talk to yourself. See what difference it makes for you….
