5 steps to make stress work for you: 4. Use your senses to become present
So far in the 5-part video series to help you start taking control over your stress, I have covered:
- Understanding the stress response: http://bit.ly/2uiwz5m
- Changing the way you perceive stress: http://bit.ly/2OEVKX1
- Breathing from your belly: http://bit.ly/2UZeu7j
In video 4, I discuss how to use your senses to bring you into the present moment. When we get stressed we tend to get caught up in our heads thinking about the future (i.e. all the things we have to do, etc). Getting caught up in these thoughts exacerbates our stress…and doesn’t actually complete any of the tasks on our to-do list. So essentially it is serving no useful function.
What we know, is that the best place for us to function from and reduce our stress, is the present moment. When we’re focused on the here-and-now, we can’t be caught up in our heads thinking…and hence our stress reduces.
